Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first championship series after the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, placing him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd choose in that situation except for George Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto won the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
