The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the United States against five Europeans involved in combating online hate and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to efforts to introduce legislation regulating US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “This government will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported the French president in criticizing the decision.
