Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following instigating derogatory songs targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road finished amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Past Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder
Both men had a past before Leeds moved up back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel too and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Challenges
Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
