Ultra-Conservative Ex- Legislator J.A. Kast Elected as Chile's Next Head of State.
In a decisive final ballot, hardline figure José Antonio Kast has won the presidential office in Chile.
A Clear-Cut Triumph
With over 99% of ballots counted, Kast secured 58.17% of the vote, defeating leftist contender Jeannette Jara, who earned 41.83%.
This represents Kast's third presidency, having previously been lost by the incumbent president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.
Platform Focused On Security and Migration
Known for his strong socially conservative views and regard for the period of dictator Augusto Pinochet, Kast's campaign was primarily centered on promises to combat rising violence and significantly curb migration.
He repeatedly blamed migrants, particularly the roughly 330,000 undocumented individuals in Chile, for security issues. Throughout the election cycle, he issued an final demand for them to depart before the new term begins or face removal.

Ruling Without a Strong Mandate
In spite of his clear popular vote triumph, Kast does not command an overall majority in parliament, not in the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate, even if various conservative parties are grouped together.
