A 60-day journey circling the Australian Coast was terminated days after the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was left behind by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the personnel realised the lady was missing.

A major rescue mission located her person the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and crew on the vessel were informed that the remainder of the journey had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" banning any further travelers from entering the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the time of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay substantial amounts of money to join the voyage - were ferried there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the ship left the island after an scheduled outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic elderly person" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking club.

"From the little facts we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of attention and common sense," she said.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have performed that might have protected Mum's life".
